UV-curing of HFFR blends, the innovative study by Mixer and UniBO

Mixer S.p.A. is glad to announce the publication of the research articlePhotocrosslinking of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)–polyethylene-octene (POE) copolymer containing halogen-free flame retardants“, the study conducted by the Department of Chemistry “Giacomo Ciamician”, Alma Mater Studiorum – Università of Bologna and our company.

In the study, we explore an innovative technology to cure HFFR blends based on UV light. The blend, formulated with a high loading of ATH,  namely EKOPREN® XI1321, was vulcanized by a 370-nm UV LED. This compound can find its application in the market of wire and cable as high flame resistance insulation or sheathing. That was done by testing two commercially available photoinitiators, BP and EMK in combination with two crosslinking coagents widely used in industry, TAC and TMPTMA. The study comprises an investigation of the crosslinking behavior of pure EVA and LDPE till the successful curing of the HFFR blend characterized by a high concentration of flame retardant filler.

Mixer S.p.A. is committed to contributing to scientific progress, and we are thrilled to share this project with UniBO thus successfully collaborating with so inspiring researchers.
